Dear Bob;

Hope you're feeling better. I received your letter about a week ago but haven't found time to write. They've kept us busy ever since we got in Dong Tam.

I'm an RTO now, I asked to. It's not real heavy and I'm not attached to any certain squad so I don't have to carry any extra shit.

We were out on berm guard the other day for 1 day and 1 night. We came in around 7:00 am and went out on a battalion-size op around 8:30 am the same day. That was yesterday, we humped for about 4 to 5 clicks. Then third platoon stayed out for ambush while the rest of the company came in. When we came in today the third man from point hit a booby trap about 300 meters out of Dong Tam. He'll be all right, it was a M-26 grenade, pressure type.

They passed a new law now, no more getting out of the field with two purple hearts. Only on CO recommendation.

Guess what? Piber is going to dog-handling school right now. He'll be up in Long Binh for three weeks. I don't know if he'll come back to our company or not. I sure hope so, it gets pretty lonely without you guys around.

I'm going on R&R in May 19-26, going to Hawaii. It's as close as I can get to home legally so I'm going to have to wait until my times up.

Well Bob take care of yourself and if you can come by in a few months before you go home.

Your Friend
Dan

P.S. "Short", I wish
