Dear Bob;
I received your letter yesterday, was very glad to hear from you again. It seems so long since you've been gone I don't know where to start.
I sure hope you are feeling better now. You had me worried for quite awhile. As you can see I'm still alive and well.
For awhile after you left I felt lost, (hope this doesn't sound like a love letter. Ha), but as things went along they (I) got better.
During our stay in Dong Tam we had a W.I.A. every time we went outside the berm. Except road security. I don't remember if you were here when I started carrying the radio but I'm still carrying it and trying to get rid of it. Excuse me a minute, they just secured the mess deck. Sound familiar?
Later it came time to rotate. Alpha, Brave, and Charley were all put on the Carlington. It's the same as the Benewah except it's crowded. And the Navys on the ship are really f-----.
Well we headed for Can Tho. As you already guessed the Company got wiped out. Our platoon was walking point. Our LT got his leg shot, they were going to cut it off but they managed to save it. Our platoon had 6 KIA and 12 WIA. I lucked out again, remembering the 26th, for I was on profile. Went out on three operations, we killed about 15 VC during those operations and captured quite a few weapons. Then my feet got messed up with infected soars and went on profile again. About 65% of our Company was on profile. Alpha and Charley combined made one company. Well we've moved up by Siagon now. Had a few operations with no one hurt. I'm still on profile, I've been on it about 10 days again. But I'm staying off this ship as much as I can from now on. They put me on K.P. four days in a row. But I didn't go, I just kind of hid outside. Ha. Fuck them.
How are things back in the world? I know they're fine. I just thought I'd ask you.
Well Bob that's it for now. Please keep writing and I'll write as much as possible. Take care of yourself. I'll see you when I get home and I mean it. Don't do anything foolish, like getting married on something like that. Not till I get back. 7 months to go. Short. Ha. Bye for now.
Your friend
Dan
